Last week, a former coach at Chow's Gymnastics and Dance Institute in West Des Moines was arrested by the FBI on a federal child pornography charge .

Sean Gardner worked at Chow's from 2018 to 2022, coaching a junior Olympic team and organizing Chow's Winter Classic.

In 2022, a gymnast at Gardner's former job at Jump'In Gymnastics in Mississippi reported abuse by Gardner to the U.S. Center for SafeSport, which handles sex abuse cases in Olympic sports.

SafeSport suspended Gardner from coaching in July 2022. The owner of Chow's Gymnastics told KCCI that while SafeSport did inform the gym of the suspension, it did not provide a reason and they were unaware of the allegations against Gardner. See our reporting on Gardner's charges here.
