Two weeks ago, the Detroit Tigers were falling apart.

There were a few reasons to be concerned : A 14-game cushion in the American League Central shrunk as low as five games, the trade deadline passed without a big splash, and the solution to their struggles had to come from within.

It didn't take long for the Tigers to respond.

By the end of Wednesday, Aug. 20, the Tigers commanded a 10-game lead in the AL Central − reestablishing themselves as the AL's best team (and MLB's second-best team) after a three-game sweep of the AL West-leading Houston Astros .
