BEAUMONT, Texas — Texas House Speaker Dade Phelan announced Thursday he will not pursue re-election to his House District 21 seat in 2026, ending a legislative career that included leading major transportation projects and mental health initiatives for Southeast Texas.
Phelan, whose family has lived in the region for generations, said the decision came after discussions with his wife Kim and their four sons.
"After reflection with my family, I will not seek re-election as State Representative for House District 21 in 2026," Phelan said in a statement. "Kim and I are grateful for the friendships, trust, and support gained along this journey."
