BEAUMONT, Texas — A 40-year-old Beaumont man was arrested Thursday afternoon in connection with four cold case sexual assaults after DNA evidence linked him to the crimes.

Eric J. Gipson Sr. was taken into custody around 3:30 p.m. by the Beaumont Police Department's Special Crimes Unit and Special Assignment Unit officers.

Gipson was indicted Wednesday on two counts of aggravated sexual assault, a first-degree felony, and two counts of sexual assault, a second-degree felony.

The arrest concluded a joint investigation between Beaumont Police Special Crimes detectives and the Texas Rangers Division. Investigators identified a potential serial sexual offender after DNA evidence from four separate cold cases matched an unknown suspect.
