If you're driving around South Philadelphia on Thursday, Aug. 21, you might notice the new signage being installed on the arena that the Flyers, Sixers and Wings call home.
The former Wells Fargo Center officially becomes Xfinity Mobile Arena today. The name change was announced in May by Comcast Spectacor and Harris Blitzer Sports & Entertainment but didn't take effect until Thursday.
The arena's first event under the new name is Thursday night's the Who’s farewell tour . The band has had about as many farewell tours (guitarist Pete Townshend promises this is the last) as the sports venue has had name changes — it was formerly known as First Union, Wachovia and CoreStates before Wells Fargo got the rights a decade ago. The Xfinity Mobile Arena is to remain through the 2030-31 season
