Leonardtown, MD – Thursday — A fugitive wanted in Virginia was taken into custody last week during a traffic stop in Lexington Park, leading a wave of arrests across St. Mary’s County that included theft, DUI, and a rape suspect facing multiple child sex charges.

On August 13, a trooper stopped a vehicle on Three Notch Road near Pegg Road and identified the driver as Shane Robert Sorrells, 30, of Nanjemoy. A records check revealed an active extraditable warrant out of Orange County, Virginia. Sorrells was arrested and charged as a fugitive from justice before being transported to the St. Mary’s County Detention Center.

Five days later, on August 18, a theft at the Walmart in California, Maryland, led to a criminal citation for Jason Eric Banks Jr., 29, of Leonardtown. Police say Banks Jr
