New South Wales' record-breaking rain is set to dry up today, but flood risks remain around the state.
Yesterday was Sydney's wettest August day since 2007, Weatherzone said, while heavy falls were recorded around the state, even as far inland as near Tamworth.
Port Macquarie received the heaviest falls, with more than 200mm in 24 hours as of yesterday afternoon, according to the Bureau of Meteorology.
Sydney received more than 80mm - higher than its average monthly rain for August - in 24 hours as well.
"But as soon as we pass midnight, get into Friday morning, it's really going to look like a lot of that rain pulls away from the coast," BoM meteorologist Angus Hines said.
He said "much drier" conditions would prevail today aside from "spotty" and scattered showers.
