Several trails and a road in the Custer Gallatin National Forest south of Big Sky have been closed for public safety as the West Fork fire grew to 650 acres on Thursday.

The fire does not currently pose a threat to Big Sky, according to the Forest Service, but visitors and residents are being advised to steer clear of the Hebgen Lake area as scooper planes and helicopters use it as a water source.

The fire grew to the north to Lightning Lake on Wednesday, climbing along a ridge. Firefighters are working to construct containment lines on the east and west flanks of the fire.

The Forest Service has closed all of Beaver Creek Road from its junction with Highway 287. All or portions of Lightning Trail No. 200, Trail 201, and Sentinel Trail No. 202, Trail 158, Trail 88, Trail 206, Trail 205,
