KEARNEY, Neb. (KSNB) - A familiar face has taken over as Chief of Police in the City of Kearney.

Gabriel Kowalek has served the Kearney Police Department for more than 23 years and officially took over as Chief of Police this month.

Starting his career as a patrol officer, Kowalek has taken on many roles during his tenure with the department.

From serving as a narcotics investigator, special services sergeant and most recently as a lieutenant overseeing the Special Services Unit and Criminal Investigations Bureau, Kowalek has had plenty of time to build relationships in the Kearney community.
