NORMAN — The Southeastern Conference announced Thursday afternoon that it will move to a nine-game conference schedule for football beginning in 2026.
What does that mean for Oklahoma? The Sooners will be in their third year in the SEC when the switch takes effect.
Under the new format, each SEC school will play three permanent annual opponents with a focus on maintaining traditional rivalries in those matchups.
Reports have indicated that Texas, Missouri and Florida are the Sooners’ likely annual opponents. An OU source told the Tulsa World that annual opponents have not been finalized and are subject to change. The SEC is expected to announce them later this year.
Each SEC team’s remaining six opponents will rotate. Every SEC team will fac
