A middle school in Gaffney, South Carolina, was placed under a brief lockdown after gunshots were heard nearby.

Around 4:50 p.m. Thursday, officers with the Gaffney Police Department were dispatched to a report of shots fired in the area between Ewing Middle School and Connecticut Village. Latest Forecast

At the time, Ewing’s football team was conducting practice when they reported hearing gunshots coming from a wooded area to the right of the school, which falls under county jurisdiction.

Deputies with the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office responded to assist in searching the area.
