JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A dock dispute is dividing neighbors in the Isle of Palms neighborhood as the city approves a zoning variance with conditions.
The city of Jacksonville's Planning Commission voted unanimously Thursday to approve a zoning variance that allows a controversial two-story dock on Royal Palm Drive to remain in place, but only with restrictions aimed at preserving boat access.
The request came from homeowners Sara Yuen and Braxton Moro, who rebuilt their dock in 2023. They argued they obtained proper approvals from the Florida Department of Environmental Protection and that the structure adds value to the neighborhood.
“Honestly, we only want to add value to our neighborhood and a dock does not jeopardize any of our neighbors’ safety,” Yuen told commissioners.
