BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ( WBRC ) - AAA Alabama is partnering with two car manufactures to help deter vehicle theft.

AAA Alabama says they are hosting a free steering wheel lock device event with Kia and Hyundai to distribute free steering wheel lock devices to owners of 2011-2022 year model Kia and Hyundai’s.

Officials say there has been a significant theft increase in the Kia’s and Hyundai’s that were manufactured between 2011-2022.

At the event, AAA Alabama says they will distribute the locks on a first-come, first-serve basis. Officials say attendees will be asked to show their vehicle registration or insurance card to prove ownership of the specific vehicles. Locks will only be given to people who own a Kia or Hyundai for the 2011-2022 model years.
