The Fairbanks Fungi Festival is set for Sunday, offering a full day of mushroom talks, activities, art, food and music at the annual community celebration of all things fungi.
The free, family-friendly festival opens at 11 a.m. in Ester Community Park with a welcome and land acknowledgment. Mycologists Christin Swearingen, Shannon Adams and Noah Siegel will present mushroom identification talks throughout the afternoon, alongside a children’s foray, a costume parade, and hands-on activities. Music begins at 3 p.m. with Vitamin U!, followed by Crossing the Heartland at 4 p.m.
Ongoing attractions include mushroom crafts for kids, more than 30 vendor booths, local mushroom specimen displays and on-site identification by experts. Food trucks will also be on hand.
