PLAQUEMINES PARISH, La. — Many of you know what it's like to take care of someone with dementia.
Every year in the U.S., there are half a million new cases of dementia, and that number is expected to increase.
And as it grows, calls for help to law enforcement grow too.
A special pilot program is now being presented in Plaquemines Parish to help make a difference.
From first responders, to firefighters, sheriff's deputies, S.W.A.T. team members, and canine officers, the men and women in Plaquemines Parish law enforcement are the first to be specially trained to handle calls involving people with dementia.
Certified Dementia Trainer Carol Redmann Bailey used interactive role playing and various props to simulate brain changes and loss of sight, mobility, taste, and hearing. She teaches
