ROCKY MOUNT, Va. (WDBJ) - Like most of our hometowns, Rocky Mount and Franklin County as a whole have a major need for more housing. People in Franklin County say there aren’t enough homes available, and those that are available are too expensive.

According to local realtors, the average home price in the county is around $300,000, and according to Zillow, the average monthly rent is just under $1,100. Meanwhile, the latest U.S. Census data indicate the median household income in the county is only around $68,000.
