WATERBURY, Conn. (WTNH) -- Hundreds of Waterbury community members made their way to Fulton Park on Thursday for the 28th Annual Back to School Rally.
Students in grades K-12 and their families were able to stock up on backpacks, pencils, notebooks, shoes, clothes and more -- free of charge. There were also 40 vendors present at the event, which was organized by Waterbury Youth Services.
"It's very helpful to parents. There is a lot of struggle with starting school, especially if you have multiple children," Waterbury Mayor Paul Pernerewski (D) said. "I think it makes it easier for kids to come to school -- because sometimes, if you don't have what you need, that's an incentive to not show up."
