After more than two decades of planning, setbacks and anticipation, Guadalupe Junior High has officially opened its doors to a wave of excitement, pride and new opportunity for residents of the small city.

Last week marked the first week of school for the brand-new campus, and according to Principal Doreen Castillo, the energy has been nothing short of electric.

“There is just so much energy here on campus with everything from our staff to our students, the community,” said Castillo. “This is really coming together for everybody.”

With 322 students enrolled and 16 classrooms in operation, the new school may be modest in size, but Castillo emphasized the significance of finally having a junior high school within city limits.
