A woman has been arrested after allegedly abandoning a dog in Derby last month, police said.

The Derby Police Department said the dog, named Rocky, was left abandoned and tied to a crate without any food or water on Prindle Avenue.

Authorities said the dog was abandoned on July 26 and was found a few days later.

Veterinarians treated the dog for mange and dental issues, which were caused by neglect and poor diet, according to police.

The dog's owner told police that she abandoned Rocky because she couldn't take care of him anymore.

She was arrested on Aug. 11 and is facing an animal cruelty charge. Police said she was released after posting $20,000 bond.
