A federal judge on Thursday ruled that the so-called "Alligator Alcatraz" can remain operational, but has prohibited further construction at the controversial migrant detention center.
In an 82-page ruling, U.S. District Judge Kathleen Williams in Miami also ruled that in 60 days, the facility must remove "all generators, gas, sewage, and other waste and waste receptacles that were installed to support this project."
Earlier this month, Judge Williams issued a temporary restraining order against the state from further building out the facility: no new lights, tents, roads and more, while she considered arguments.
Environmental group Friends of the Everglades insisted the facility is doing harm to the sensitive ecosystem and endangering wildlife like the Florida panther.
