BATON ROUGE — LSU football coach Brian Kelly has always been in favor of the Southeastern Conference adding another conference game to the schedule.

The SEC announced Thursday afternoon that starting in 2026, the league will be moving to a nine-game conference schedule from the eight-game slate it has had for years. Kelly said during his radio show Thursday night that playing nine SEC games each season embodies why he wanted to come coach at LSU.

"We're getting ready to play for championships, why not play a championship schedule," Kelly said. "We haven't been in the playoff yet but we're going to be in the playoffs a lot.
