DAUPHIN COUNTY, Pa. — A new bill proposed by a Berks County lawmaker would require everyone riding a motorcycle in Pennsylvania to wear a helmet.

Lifelong bikers shared their reactions to the proposed Universal Motorcycle Helmet Safety Act that would require everyone riding a motorcycle in Pennsylvania to wear a helmet by Representative Manuel Guzman (D).

"I would never ride without a helmet," Kenneth Slippey explained. "I think it’s a necessity."

Slippey is a lifelong biker who chooses to wear a helmet.

The mandate for all bikers to wear helmets was repealed in 2003, due in large part to the work of the Alliance of Bikers Aimed Towards Education, or ABATE.

They opposed the new proposal on Thursday, saying in part:
