The province’s police watchdog has concluded officers in Sudbury cannot be blamed for an injury sustained by a man they took into custody earlier this year.

The Special Investigations Unit said Thursday it found “no reasonable grounds to believe two Greater Sudbury Police Service officers committed a criminal offence in connection with the broken arm suffered by a 44-year-old man.”

The arrest occurred back on April 26, when police responded to an alleged theft at the Southridge Mall, the SIU said in its release.

According to the case report, two officers found the suspected thief inside the Elegant Apparel store and attempted to arrest him, but he “resisted by pulling his arms away and was taken to the ground.”
