BISBEE, Ariz. (13 News) - A proposed half-cent tax to fund a new jail will go before Cochise County voters in November.
There has been a lot of debate surrounding the jail, including an election, a lawsuit, court rulings, and now a new election.
On Thursday, officials conducted a site visit of where it could be built, which is just a few hundred feet away from where the 40-year-old jail sits.
Back in July, the Cochise County Board of Supervisors said the new jail, if approved by voters, would be built in essentially the same location as the current one.
Cochise County Sheriff Mark Dannels said while the cost is $130 million, it was the most cost-efficient option given the existing infrastructure.
