Brazilian President Lula da Silva firmly rejected President Donald Trump's interference in Brazil's internal affairs, asserting that his country's autonomy is a non-negotiable principle.

"The American president doesn't have to give his opinion on Brazil. We'll take care of that," Lula said.

The Brazilian president's statements come a few weeks after the US imposed tariffs on exports and after Trump criticized the legal proceedings facing former President Jair Bolsonaro.

“Sovereignty isn't just a question of borders, it also involves the direct care of the people (… ) We're not afraid of anyone shouting at us; we're polite, I don't shout at anyone,” Lula said, clearly referring to Trump.
