The Permian Panthers had no trouble in putting up points on offense while their defense got the shutout in the team’s only scrimmage against Abilene Cooper Thursday at Ratliff Stadium.

It was the only scrimmage for both teams as the season openers will take place next week.

“Overall, I thought their effort on both sides of the ball,” Permian head coach Jeff Ellison said. “I thought the kicking game went well but we can’t have penalties before or after a play that kills us. That’s got to get cleaned up.”

Permian returns seven starters on offense and nine on defense.

The Cougars return seven starters on offense and four on defense.

Permian Cayden Hernandez gave the Panthers good field position on their opening drive and it wasn’t long before Permian scored for a 7-0 lead.
