EUGENE, Ore. - After less than a year under construction, the former Red Lion Hotel on Broadway in Eugene officially reopened as "Bridges on Broadway," a new permanent supportive housing complex.
Jacob Fox, executive director for Homes for Good, Lane County's housing authority, shared insights into the project's development.
"What you're looking at is a building that we purchased during the pandemic," Fox said.
He emphasized the collaboration with Lane County and how the hotel initially provided temporary shelter to those displaced by the 2020 Holiday Farm wildfire. That dark time offered a glimmer of hope as to what the building itself could become.
"We just had the Eye of the Tiger and stayed very focused and we knew we needed to end people's homelessness," Fox said.
