YOLO COUNTY, Calif. —
Yolo County health officials on Thursday confirmed the first human case of West Nile virus within the county this year.
The Yolo County Health and Human Services Agency said the person affected, a Davis resident, was hospitalized for the illness.
Officials said Yolo is the seventh county in California to see a human case of West Nile virus this year. It's one of 15 cases reported across the state.
Symptoms of the virus can show up two to six days after a bite from an infected mosquito. Up to 20% of those infected with West Nile could experience fever, body aches, a headache or nausea. While most cases can resolve within days to weeks, more serious cases can lead to neurological effects, hospitalization or even death.
