HENDERSON, Ky. (WEHT) -- It will take a little longer to begin repairs on the road collapse on I-69 in western Kentucky.

The northbound lane has been closed near Morton's Gap since August 15th. The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet says after an initial inspection, it's not clear what caused the shoulder to slide and pavement to crack.

Crews will drill deeper to find the source of the problem. KYTC says permanent repairs cannot begin until a cause is determined.

Officials say there are records of mining in the area. The Kentucky division of abandoned mine lands is assisting.
