Columbia S.C. (WSPA) - Wednesday, the South Carolina Department of Transportation Secretary, Justin Powell, spoke to a committee of lawmakers with the Department of Transportation, Modernization Ad Hoc Committee.

Powell shared the progress and accomplishments SCDOT has made in recent years, but also expressed a few funding concerns.

"Ultimately you can super charge the engine as much as you can, but ultimately you got to put fuel in the tank. Paying for all of this will require new funds," he said.

The current annual budget for the SCDOT is over $2.7 billion, and they are responsible for South Carolina's roads and highways.

South Carolina has the fourth largest state highway system in the nation with 41,000 miles.
