BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ( WBRC ) - Two people have been arrested after more than 180 animals were found in a Alabaster home in June.
56-year-old Jesus Salazar Reyna and 62-year-old Arturo Reyna Salazar were charged with dog/cat cruelty 1st and have bonded out of jail.
According to police, 177 dogs and nine cats were removed from the property. Of those, 119 dogs and all nine cats were euthanized due to severe health issues.
The investigation began when Alabaster Animal Control officers were responding to an unrelated call in the neighborhood. Nearby residents alerted them to dogs in visible distress.
Police say the homeowner allowed officers to begin removing the animals, but the conditions inside the home were far worse than expected.
The home has since been condemned. Authoritie
