NACOGDOCHES, Texas — The Nacogdoches City Council on Tuesday approved using about three acres of recreation area to build a new central fire station.

After a public hearing, councilmembers voted in favor of redesignating the use of the recreation area, located at 600 East Pilar Street, for the construction of a new fire station.

After city staff and real estate broker looked for potential sites, they found the places that met the requirements were either unavailable or cost too much. Because of that, the Nacogdoches Fire Department spoke with the city's Community Services Division about putting the station in the northwest corner of the Clint Dempsey Soccer Complex near Pilar Street, according to the council agenda.
