As Hurricane Erin continues to churn about 300 miles off the eastern coast of the U.S. on Thursday, forecasters are keeping a close watch on other potential storm systems that could develop in the Atlantic Ocean in the next seven days.

Forecasters from the National Hurricane Center say there’s a 70% chance that a disorganized area of showers and thunderstorms in the central Atlantic near the Leeward Islands will evolve into a tropical depression within the next seven days. And there’s a 40% chance it could happen by this weekend.

A tropical depression would become a tropical storm if it remains organized and its sustained winds reach 39 mph or higher.
