CLEVELAND, Ohio - An insurer that provides coverage to St. Theodosius Orthodox Cathedral sued a roofing company Thursday, claiming the major fire that damaged the historic church last year stemmed from negligence.
Church Mutual Insurance Co., a Wisconsin-based firm, filed a lawsuit in federal court in Cleveland against Forest Roofing in Broadview Heights.
The suit says the insurer already has paid $3 million for repairs, and it is expected to make as much as $9 million more before the project is completed.
In the days after the fire, the Rev. Jan Cizmar, the dean of the cathedral, told cleveland.com and The Plain Dealer that the church was focused on repairing the damage.
“We will fix it,” Cizmar said at the time. “There are no accusations, no bad emotions. We just feel that we need to
