PORTSMOUTH, Va. — Portsmouth police are asking for the public’s help in finding a suspect in an early morning shooting on Virginia Avenue.

Officers responded shortly after midnight to a report of a shooting in the 1000 block of Virginia Avenue. They found an man suffering from gunshot wounds. He was taken to a local hospital.

Police have identified 30-year-old Nashawn Laron Corbett as a suspect. He has been charged with possession of a firearm by a violent felon.

Detectives are currently investigating this incident.
