The Lake District is being swamped by tourists who show scant regard for the natural surroundings and behave as if it's a party spot, according to a resident.

Tourism has long been integral to life beside Windermere . Yet the effect of holidaymakers in recent years has become so severe it is permanently transforming the area and driving out residents, according to local Keysia Mattocks.

Brought up in the national park celebrated for its breathtaking scenery, Mattocks said many residents were struggling because of the shortage of homes .

"Me and my wife have been renting [our] house for seven years now, [but] the landlord is selling up and trying to find a house around here that will accept three cats is impossible," she told the Express .
