The National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children (NSPCC) is calling on the government to change the law to end physical punishment towards children once and for all.

The campaign comes off the back of a poll conducted by the children's charity which revealed that four out of five parents with a child under 18 in England (81%) believe it’s unacceptable for adults to use force, however slight, against a child..

A similar number of young adults (82%) were in agreement.

Roughly 73% of those parents also said they believe physical punishment negatively affects a child’s mental health.

The NSPCC say they "believe legislation is out of step with public attitudes".
