A church has been forced to close for up to three weeks after it was trashed in a break in.

Thousands of pounds worth of damage was caused to the Trinity Methodist Church in Heywood during the early hours of Thursday morning (August 14).

A section of the ceiling was torn down, multiple doors were smashed, cupboards were ransacked and the church's plumbing system was damaged.

The break-in was reported to the police, who say they are investigating the incident.

The church has confirmed that services and community group sessions will be suspended until further notice.
