Although John Bolton served as national security adviser in the first Trump Administration, the hawkish neoconservative is on very bad terms with President Donald Trump these days. Trump fired Bolton after the two of them clashed on foreign policy, and Bolton continues to be highly critical of the president.
On Friday, August 22, Fox 5 in Washington, D.C. reported that FBI agents raided Bolton's home in Bethesda, Maryland.
When ABC News' Jonathan Karl interviewed Bolton recently, they discussed Trump's thirst for revenge against political opponents and asked where he fits in.

Karl told Bolton, "Before you go, we're about to talk about Trump's retribution campaign we're seeing at the FBI and the Justice Department. You're obviously on his enemies list. At least (FBI Director) Kash Patel's enemies list. Are you worried that they're going to come after you in some way? I mean, he's hinted at it before."
Bolton responded, "Well, I think he's already come after me and several others in withdrawing the protection that we had for…. The Iranians for the attack on Qasem Suleimani. So I think, and I said in the -- in the new forward to the paperback edition of my book, I think it is a retribution presidency."
After Trump returned to the White House, security protections for Bolton were lifted — an example of the Trump Administration taking revenge against him, critics said.
The FBI raid of Bolton's home is generating a lot of discussion on X, formerly Twitter.

X user Bill DeMayo tweeted, " So John Bolton is still somewhat beloved by the right isn't he? I mean I don't care for the guy but this a blatant attempt at intimidation by the government and what police states do. Proponents of limited government should hate everything about this."
Writer Diane Callahan posted, "Let’s see, first Trump ordered two US Navy nuclear submarines to 'appropriate regions.' Then he met with Putin and Zelenskyy, all performative, no results, then he ordered the National Guard into DC, then he ordered Texas to produce five gerrymandered seats, and now he’s targeting John Bolton for speaking the truth about him. What’s next, release all the serial killers on death row? Let’s talk about the true weaponization of government."
