UPDATE (6:20 p.m.): A deadly shooting at Ingalls Shipbuilding on Friday morning left one employee dead and put one of the Gulf Coast’s largest employers on lockdown.
The Pascagoula Police Department says they received a call around 7:30 a.m. at the shipyard. Family members of employees spent tense moments waiting for updates; among them was Whitney Mosley, whose husband works at the shipyard.
“I got a text from my husband, and he said, 'We're on lockdown,' and I immediately was like, 'What?' And I was thinking, maybe it was just some sort of drill or something,” said Mosley.
Police later confirmed that 27-year-old Tahj Johnson, an Ingalls employee, was shot and killed. Another worker, 25-year-old Curtis James Jr., has been arrested and charged with murder.
