A Hickory restaurant was heavily damaged after a car crashed into the building on Friday morning.

The crash happened at Palm Berries at about 5:30 a.m.

Hickory Police Capt. Phillip Demas said a 2020 Infiniti SUV lost control and crashed into the building.

Demas said the driver, identified as Bryson Bowman, of Hickory, told officers she was having trouble with her steering and crashed, according to the crash report. Bowman was issued a citation for improper steering equipment.

Palm Berries is a restaurant that serves acai bowls. The restaurant is located at the intersection of Second Street Northeast and 16th Avenue Northwest in Hickory.

Palm Berries is closed Friday and expected to reopen on Monday. Palm Berries co-owner Ahsan Mehmood said the damage was not structural.
