Losing a canine companion is devastating. While it cannot always be helped, American Kennel Club offers these tips for preventing pet theft.

Walk close together. When you are out walking your dog, always keep them on a leash and within sight. This will reduce the likelihood of your pup wandering off and catching the attention of a potential dog thief.

Never leave your dog in your yard unattended. Whether it is your back or front yard, do not leave your dog outside by itself. This makes them an easy target, especially if your yard is visible from the street.
