On Aug. 22, the U.S. Supreme Court allowed the Trump administration to move forward with broad cuts to National Institutes of Health grants connected to diversity, equity and inclusion policies, while leaving unresolved whether the policy itself was lawfully enacted, NBC News reported Aug. 21. The justices’ 5-4 vote partially approved the administration’s request to pause a Massachusetts judge’s ruling that blocked the cuts, with Justice Amy Barrett providing the swing vote to move the decision forward.
