Erin Campbell has been appointed state geologist and director of the Division of Geological & Geophysical Surveys within the Alaska Department of Natural Resources.

Campbell joins the division with a background in petroleum studies and structural geology, more than a decade of teaching at the college level and experience in public service, according to a DNR news release. She previously served as Wyoming state geologist and director of the Wyoming State Geological Survey, a position she held from 2017 until moving to Alaska this summer.

Campbell earned a bachelor’s degree in geology and mathematics from Occidental College and a doctorate in geology from the University of Wyoming. Her career has included four years as a geologist with Chevron in Louisiana and California and 15 years teach
