The Tanana Yukon Historical Society will celebrate Judge James Wickersham’s 168th birthday on Sunday.

The celebration, which includes cake, coffee or punch, and a talk about the man who helped create the first lumber-built house in Fairbanks in 1904, will take place from noon to 4 p.m. Sunday at the Wickersham House Museum in Pioneer Park

The historical society has operated the museum every summer since 1987, a news release from the group states. The Tanana Yukon Historical Society’s early members were responsible for saving the Wickersham house from demolition and rehabilitating it in order to celebrate the man who is responsible for much of what has enabled Fairbanks to survive.
