A Perth and Kinross councillor has this week called for local authorities to be responsible for Scotland's trunk routes to "better coordinate works and minimise disruption". ‌

It comes after a fellow Carse of Gowrie ward councillor last week suggested major works be carried out by the public rather than private sector. ‌

The calls have been made after repeated lengthy roadworks on the A90 between Perth and Dundee have led to Carse of Gowrie villages and rural roads continually being used as rat runs. ‌

The latest road safety improvements are currently being carried out over the course of three months on the A90 Rait Junction to Middlebank Farm central reservation. The £1.2million works include drainage improvements and replacing safety barriers. The works began on Sunday, August 3
