TRAVERSE CITY, Mich. (WILX) - The suspect in the Walmart stabbing, Bradford Gillie, is scheduled to appear in court on Friday for a hearing regarding his competency to stand trial.

In Michigan, defendants are presumed competent unless proven otherwise.

When competency is questioned, the court can order a psychological evaluation to determine whether the defendant is mentally fit to understand the proceedings and assist in their defense.

On July 26, Gillie entered a Walmart in Traverse City and stabbed 11 people.

He faces one count of terrorism and 11 counts of assault with intent to murder.
