CLEVELAND, Ohio — A giraffe born last week will make its public debut today at the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo and guests have the opportunity to select his name.

Visitors to the zoo now can see the calf at the zoo’s Ben Gogolick Giraffe Encounter. Tuli, a 14-year-old giraffe who previously resided at the Toledo Zoo, gave birth at 8:30 a.m. Friday, Aug. 15, to the calf, according to Cleveland Zoo officials.

“The calf is the newest addition to the zoo’s giraffe herd and a significant milestone in ongoing efforts to conserve this vulnerable species,” a news release says.

The zoo is considering three names for the calf: Zane (means “noble”), Malik (means “king”), and Albert (a reference to Lake Albert in Uganda). Guests who make a donation to the Giraffe Conservation Foundation can vote on
