The new rules target everyday gadgets and unusual items, leaving some passengers scrambling at airport checkpoints .

With the latest crackdown, the TSA and the Federal Aviation Administration have updated their prohibited list .

Among the newly banned items in carry-on luggage are popular hair styling tools.

Cordless curling irons and flat irons containing gas cartridges are now prohibited in checked bags.

Butane-filled styling devices and small gas refill cartridges are also banned from carry-on luggage .

Tools with standard power cords remain allowed in both checked and carry-on bags.
