Burnside Road will be getting a lot more colourful with the induction of a new large-scale mural sponsored by the Gorge Tillicum Community Association (GTCA).

The new mural will be created by local artist Collin Elder. Elder’s work focuses on relationships between the wilderness, people, and landscapes.

“I began painting while pursuing a career in ecological restoration, which, along with a degree in biology, has focused my work on how we relate to landscape and wilderness,” said Elder.

“This mural will magnify Arbutus menziesii, a uniquely local native tree that has been highly regarded and sustained for millennia by the W̱SÁNEĆ First Nations. I hope this piece offers a vision of nature towering once again over the landscape where it once thrived.”
